Michael Stanfill, PhD, ABPP
Dr. Michael Stanfill is a licensed psychologist in Washington and California, with prior temporary licensure privileges in several additional states including Idaho, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, and South Carolina. He received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University and completed his APA accredited pre-doctoral training at Western State Hospital. He then went on to complete a post-doctoral fellowship in evidence-based treatment and assessment of post-traumatic stress disorder. He is board certified as a forensic psychologist by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) and American Board of Forensic Psychology (ABFP). He is one of only approximately 300 psychologists nationally to go through this rigorous process and only one of approximately eight psychologists in Washington to be a board certified forensic psychologist.
Dr. Stanfill's expertise includes the psychological assessment and treatment of major mental illness in forensic and clinical settings with children, adolescents, and adults. He utilizes evidence-based and scientifically-informed techniques in his treatment and evaluation work. His areas of forensic evaluation expertise includes competency concerns, mental state considerations, parental fitness and capacity, violence and sexual violence risk assessment, and sentencing mitigation. He has civil and general psychological evaluation expertise in pre-employment and fitness for duty considerations, personal injury, addressing various workplace concerns, executive evaluations and surrogacy issues.
Dr. Stanfill is the former Psychiatric Services Director for a large county jail system and consults to outside agencies on the use of psychological assessment, policy and programming issues related psycho-legal concerns in correctional settings. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Washington and previously also taught personality assessment at the California School of Professional Psychology. He is also a clinical practicum supervisor for the Seattle Pacific University psychology PhD program. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Psychology and has published, and speaks nationally, on developmental trajectories, the validity of psychological assessment with multiple populations, predicting risk, and contextual mental health policy.
